Opera, Art and the Archipelago

Friday
Arrive in the evening at the hotel and enjoy a quiet dinner. For those who wish there is an option to dine at the historic Pelikan restaurant, specialising in Husmanskost (traditional Swedish homemade food).
Saturday
Morning - Free time. Opportunity to visit the Vasa Museum.
Noon - a taxi will collect you from your hotel and drive you to the Stadshuset bridge from where a steam boat will leave, travelling across Lake Mälaren to the island of Drottningholm, a residence of the Swedish royal family. You will enjoy a leisurely lunch on board the boat.
Afternoon- a guided tour of Drottningholm Palace and the Chinese Pavilion. The whole estate of Drottningholm is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Early Evening- An opera performance at the intimate eighteenth century Drottningholm court theatre, the oldest theatre in the world to use the original sets and special effects in performances. Return by bus to central Stockholm.
Sunday
Morning - Meet at hotel and walk to Stadshuset (the townhall) where the Nobel prize dinner is held every year. We will have a guided tour of the interior of the building. This visit will be followed by a guided walking tour of Gamla Stan (the Old Town). Visit the Stockholm Cathedral and get a feel for medieval Stockholm.
Lunch at a local restaurant
Afternoon - a car will take us to Thielska Galleriet for a private guided tour of the museum.
Evening - Champagne reception at a private central Stockholm nineteenth century townhouse followed by a traditonal smorgasbord dinner at the Grand Hotel verandah restaurant with fabulous views of the water and the Royal Palace.
Monday

Morning - Boat trip along the spectacular Archipelago to one of the beautiful islands, a nature reserve. Time to walk around and enjoy the island
Lunch at a restaurant on the island.
Afternoon - Private boat to collect from the island and return to Stockholm winding through the beautiful, tranquil islands of the Archipelego.
Tuesday
11.00 Car to pick up from hotel and drive to Haga Park.
12.00 Guided tour of Gustav III's Pavilion at Haga.
13.15 Car to collect and return to Stockholm
Travel to airport for return flight.

Costs
Cost per person: £1,590.
This price (based on two people sharing a double room) includes:
- 4 nights (according to date) including breakfast in a double room at a late nineteenth century 4 star hotel set in a prime location overlooking the harbour front. (supplement for single-occupancy rooms)
- a ticket to a performance at Drottningholm opera house with a top-price seat.
- steam boat trip to Drottningholm
- champagne reception at a private Stockholm home
- all museum/gallery and stately home entrance fees
- all guiding fees
- boat trip to the Archipelego island with a two hour scenic return boat trip to Stockholm with a private boat for the group
